2008 - DIRT pure STOCK SPECIFICATIONS – 2008
NOTE: No one under the age of sixteen (16), is permitted in the Pits. An acceptable picture ID is required at the Pit Entrance for anyone appearing to be age twenty-five (25), or younger.
THE STATEMENT: Unless it came on a stock, mass produced vehicle, it is not legal unless specified here! If it came on a stock, mass produced vehicle and it is prohibited here, it is not legal! All dimensions are referenced as the car is raced. Your tire pressures, spring settings, etc. may put your car out of limits. No variances are allowed when/if the cars are checked/weighed going onto the track. Following the race, decisions on variances for accidents is at the discretion of the Tech Inspector(s).

DIRT HOBBY STOCK
RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER CLASSES:
These cars are primarily for newer drivers to V8 cars and experienced drivers on a budget. They use a large number of stock parts.
ELIGIBLE MAKES/MODELS:
Any Chrysler, Ford, or GM model car that was/is mass-produced for the United States market. Check with the track before you build.
MATERIALS:
No ceramic or carbon fiber parts are allowed.
RADIATOR:
One, mounted in front of the engine for the purpose(s) of cooling water and, optionally, to cool an automatic transmission.
ENGINE:
LOCATION
Stock location for make/model/year.
OPTION 1
Properly Sealed GM 602 Crate Motor in any make car.
OPTION 2
- MAKE: Corporate engine must match the corporate frame, any year OK.
- LIFT: Must not exceed .500" lift as measured at the top of the valve.
- BLOCK: Stock based, steel, small block, not to exceed three hundred sixty two (362) ci. Must be stock bore (+60 OK) and stroke. No strokers/hybrids (no 383 ci Chevys, no 347 Fords, etc.). All engine casting numbers stamped on the engine must be unaltered.
- CAM: Chain driven.
- LIFTERS: Solid or hydraulic. No rollers or mushrooms. No ceramic.
- PISTONS: Dished or flat. No dome.
- RODS: OEM length. Example: SBC must be 5.7 inch I-beam rods, no 6 inch rods. No H-beam rods.
- HEADS: OEM iron heads. VORTEC heads OK. OEM style stamped steel rockers. No roller rockers. No roller tipped rockers. Screw in studs OK. Guide plates OK. Stud girdles OK. No porting/polishing.
- VALVES: Maximum of two valves per cylinder. Max intake is 1.94. Max exhaust is 1.50.
- CARBURETOR: One (1) carb. Three-hundred-fifty (350) cfm two barrel Holley part number 0.7448 2300 series with stock, unaltered, throttle arm and butterflies. Choke plate may be removed. Choke housing must remain in place. Power valve may be removed/blocked off. The accelerator pump squirter may not extend into the area directly above the venturi (Tech purposes). Recommend epoxying the boosters for safety.
- CARB CLAIM: Any car owner of a car in the Feature Race may claim the carburetor of any car finishing ahead of the claimers car in the Feature Race for three hundred ($300.00) dollars.
INTAKE MANIFOLD: Any cast iron 2bbl. No porting/polishing. OK to drill the intake to mount on VORTEC heads.
- CARB ADAPTER/SPACER: No more than one adapter and no more than one spacer a combined total of one inch thick. May be aluminum, wooden or plastic.
- AIR FILTER HOUSING: No vacuum lines allowed between the air cleaner and the carburetor. Only one, round, mass produced air cleaner may be used. Maximum size of the element will be fourteen inches in diameter by four inches tall. Air cleaner top and bottom must be made of solid metal. NO PLASTIC AIR HATS
- IGNITION: Battery operated. OEM electronic ignition system such as HEI required. Distributor must be mounted in the stock location and maintain the stock firing order. No crank-triggered ignition. No ignition boxes.
- ALTERNATOR: If used, must be twelve volt and of an OEM design. After market OK.
- HARMONIC BALANCER: After market to include fluid damper OK.
- NUMBER ONE PLUG must be at the stock location for the Make/Model.
- STARTER: Full size after market OK. Must drive the stock location ring gear. May be reverse mounted.
- WATER PUMP & P/S PUMP: After market OK. Front mounted, belt driven.
- ACCESSORIES: Other items must be OEM style but may be after market items.
- PROHIBITED: Any titanium or other similar sophisticated lightweight parts. Mounting the engine so that the centerline of the crankshaft is more than one inch from the center point between the two top ball joints.
FUEL:
Racing gasoline OK. No after market additives. No cool cans. See the Safety Rules for info on the required Fuel Cell.
EXHAUST:
Must exit approximately parallel to the ground and not be aimed in the direction of the cockpit. Any cast iron manifold. Headers o.k.with 15/8" primaries and 3" collectors.No over frame or crossover headers. Each side must include thirty-six inches of two inch pipe including the muffler.
MUFFLERS:
Required. Mufflers must be schonfeld part #112535 or # 112530 only. No exceptions and no excuses. Tech man must be able to read numbers stamped on the muffler. NO EXCEPTION
FLYWHEEL/FLEXPLATE:
OEM steel only, OEM dimensions, and a minimum weight of fourteen (14) pounds.
CLUTCH/TORQ CONVERTER:
Any style disk clutch with a steel housing pressure plate weighing at least thirteen (13) pounds and mounted to the flywheel such that it permits the car to be out of gear for starting the engine. Torq Converters most be of at least thirteen (13) inches in diameter and must weigh at least thirty-eight (38) pounds with fluid. The car must be able to be started in neutral and the engine run with no pedals or levers engaged.
TRANSMISSION:
OEM three, four or five speed standard; or an OEM automatic with OEM functional torque converter. The transmission must bolt directly to the rear of the engine block or motor plate. Coolers permitted for automatics. Must have at least two forward speeds and reverse in working order to take the track.
DRIVE SHAFT:
OEM steel. Universal joints are to be similar in design to OEM units. Minimum drive shaft diameter is three (3) inches.
REAR END:
Ford style nine inch, non-floater, OK in any make. OEM five or six lug OK after strongly considering installing C-clip eliminators or other provisions such that breaking a rear axle does not cause the axle to come out of the housing.
BRAKES:
Minimum of two rear and one front brakes. OEM drum and/or disk setups on the axles. After market brake pedal and master cylinder OK. No ceramic or any other coating permitted on the surface of the rotors or brake drums. No floating brakes.
BATTERY:
May use two batteries. If battery is located in drivers compartment it must be in a enclosed marine box and securely fastened. No bungee cords of ratchet straps. NO EXCEPTIONS. Must power the starter and the ignition and any accessories.
CHASSIS:
OEM for Make/Model/Year of the body.
WHEEL BASE:
Must be as manufactured for the make/model/year. A one-inch tolerance may be allowed at the discretion of the Technical Inspector for accident damage the day of the race.
STEERING:
OEM style for Make/Model. Quickener OK. No rack and pinions unless OEM equipped.
FRONT SUSPENSION:
OEM. Right, upper A-arm and all steering linkage may be reinforced as long as their identity remains clear. OEM style and dimension racing shocks allowed. Shocks must use the OEM mounts and remain in their OEM location. No screw jacks. OEM style and dimension racing springs allowed. Springs must remain in their stock mounts and location. For coil spring cars you may use five-inch springs. Chrysler torsion bar suspension is permitted if it was stock on the year and model designated for the car. No driver adjustable suspension devices permitted.
REAR SUSPENSION:
OEM. Stock suspension mounting points and approximate geometry must be retained if a Ford 9" rear is used. . Shocks must use the OEM mounts and remain in their OEM location. No screw jacks. OEM style and dimension racing springs allowed. Springs must remain in their stock mounts and location. For coil spring cars you may use five-inch springs. Chrysler torsion bar suspension is permitted if it was stock on the year and model designated for the car. OEM design leaf spring setups in which the springs are securely fastened to the rear end are OK. No driver adjustable suspension devices permitted. No “Z” links, aftermarket panhard bars, aftermarket J-bars, torque links, torque arms, damper shocks, fifth coils, etc.
TRACTION CONTROL:
Other than listed under REAR SUSPENSION, no other traction devices are permitted.
BODY:
OEM production body, 1960 or newer. Complete stock body, unaltered except as stated here. Hoods may be gutted. Firewall must be stock and in the stock location. Firewall may be altered for distributor clearance, if necessary. No open holes in firewall (seal penetrations). Maintain the stock floor from the firewall rearward to the leading edge of the trunk. There must be a firewall between the drivers compartment and the trunk. All doors must be welded and/or bolted shut. Exterior door sheet metal my be replaced with fabricated sheet metal panels. Doors may be gutted. Install three (3) driver's side bars, with a 1/8" steel plate covering the door bars, front to rear and top to bottom welded in place on outside of bars. Install a minimum of two (2) right side bars. The frame rails do not count as the door bars. See the Safety Rules for other items. Front inner panels optional on shock cars, required on strut cars. Trunk lid may be gutted. All glass must be removed. No mirrors. Grill may be replaced with wire mesh. Must have stock body lines. Must have a metal firewall between the fuel cell and driver. No fuel lines in drivers compartment unless contained in conduit/pipe. Stop sign post material allowed between front and rear fenders on side of body to protect sheet metal and paint jobs. Fenders may be cut for tire clearance. Front fender wells may be removed. Rear fender wells must be sealed, homemade OK. The Technical Inspector may make allowances for race damage sustained on the day of the event.
NOSE/GRILL:
Aftermarket plastic nose for Make/Model OK. Front grill may be removed if such nose is installed.
FRONT BUMPER:
OEM for any make/model OK. Fabricated Late Model type front bumpers may be used if professionally built and properly installed. No sharp ends. Ends must be modified with tubing to produce a backward bend. Maximum bumper width is sixty-inches. May not extend more than three-inches outward from the attachment point of the last support/brace that attaches at a forty-five to ninety degree angle. One upper and one lower bar of no more than one-inch tubing no more than sixty-inches wide may be added to the bumper to support the nose piece. These bars may be no wider than the bumper and must have ends that curve backward and may curve upward or downward towards the bumper. Bumper ends must be smooth and rounded and stay within the body lines. All bumper material, mounts, braces and hardware must be steel and/or aluminum. Check with Tech the first time the car comes to the track.
HOOD:
May have an opening for the air cleaner. The claimed engine size must be displayed on each side of the hood reading from the closest side of the car. Use letters at least three-inches tall with the length proportional to the height. Example: “355 ci” or “355 cubic inches”.
ROOF:
Stock appearing. No spoilers or wings. The left and right edges of the roof are to be approximately the same height from the top of the doors and quarter panels. No more than a one inch tolerance. The left and right side support panels for the roof must be of the same design and front to back length.
INTERIOR:
See the section on SAFETY.
No part of the seat may extend rearward past the plane generated by connecting the rear most edges of the doors.
Aftermarket pedals OK. May be relocated.
No mirrors.
OEM size window openings required.
TRUNK LID:
Required. Must be able to be opened.
REAR BUMPER:
Any make/model OEM OK. Fabricated OK if approved by Tech. Ends must be smooth. Must be attached to the frame or roll cage in at least four places, two on each side of the centerline.
SPOILER:
Not allowed.
WHEELS:
Steel, fifteen-inch diameter. Maximum width is ten (10) inches. No wide fives. Bead lock on the right rear only. Must mount using at least a five lug nut design. May race with no more than one stud per wheel missing IF it was broken that day at that event. Mud caps OK. Any mud cap that comes loose during a race, other than during an incident that causes a yellow or red flag, may be reclaimed by the driver for a five-dollar donation to the track rollover fund. If the loose mud cap is the reason for the flag, that car may be sent to the rear of all cars that were on the same lap prior to the caution.
TIRES:
Three options. UMP A-40. Nine (9) inch Towel City Red Dot Recaps. Ten (10) inch asphalt pull-offs. Tires may not be chemically treated such as using tire softeners.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
No radios, lights or other powered devices may be used to communicate with the driver. Pit boards are OK. No digital cockpit gauges. No on board computers except those contained within the ignition and/or tachometer systems. Rev limiters OK if not adjustable while racing.
WEIGHT:
3,500 pounds after the race with the driver on board. 3,200 pounds if using the 602 Crate Motor.
ADDITIONS/CHANGES TO THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT RULES:
SCATTER SHIELD: All clutch assemblies and torque converters must be mounted inside of a safety steel bell housing. If not, the bell housing must have a scatter shield covering the upper 270 degrees of rotation using a minimum of a four-inch wide section of one-quarter-inch steel. The four-inch section must cover the flex plate/flywheel and the torque converter/coupler/clutch).
WINDOW NETS: Required. The latch, if latch type, goes to the top, front corner.
